Making HardTack

5 pounds unbleached all purpose flour

2 tbs. baking powder.

1 tbs. Salt

water

(Dough should be stiff and dry. If dough becomes too stiff to work with add water. If too moist add flour. If dough sticks to the cutter it is too moist.)

Mix dough with fork.

Use hands to form a workable dough ball.

Roll to 1/4" to 1/2" thick.

(Use flour sprinkles liberally on the rolling surface to prevent sticking)

Cut into biscuits with hardtack cutter.

Bake at 300 degrees for 70 to 90 minutes or until it can no longer be pushed in.

Store dry. Do not store in a plastic bag. Do not freeze.

Caution hardtack could break your teeth. That must be why the men called them teeth drillers.
